Interior design for your sacred space

Our Design Process

Dont set sail on someone elses star! You are unique and your project is unique as well. Four Lillies Design desires to focus on the unique needs of you and your family or organization above all else.

We also believe that the future belongs to those who prepare for it today. With that in mind, we endeavor to plan for success from the onset of our time together by providing a helpful framework of our design process and what you can expect when you work with us. We understand the need to adapt to unexpected changes and to be creative in our problem-solving. This plan helps make execution easier for us, lower maintenance for you, and most importantly, it helps us make your plans come to fruition!

*Not all steps of the design process are applicable to every project.

Phase 1.

Getting to Know You

1| On-line Inquiry

You found us! We are thrilled about the chance to get to know you. The inquiry form is available on our website and requests some high-level data and basic information about you and your project.

2 | Discovery Call

Are you wanting a more glam or romantic bedroom? A more mature space to entertain? A cozy nursery for your baby on the way? Or do you just want to feel more organized? This 20-minute discovery call is a chance for you to meet our designer, Angela, and to provide additional details about your project and the needs of your family.

3 | Consultation & Design Style Assessment

After our listening session and we have mutually agreed to move to the next phase in the process, we schedule an in-home consultation,  a very important first step in the design process. Once you book your 2-hour consultation, we will ask you to complete a detailed design style assessment that will tell our designer your thoughts about exactly what you would like to accomplish, your lifestyle, your preferences and tastes, your timeline, and your budget.

During the on-site consultation, our designer will tour your space and review your Style Assessment with you,  taking detailed notes about your vision. The consultation is also a work session where we determine project scope, project timeline, project budget and assess feasibility and how we will resolve the challenges you may be experiencing with your current space.

If you are a DIYer, you will receive the project recommendation notes that the designer has made at the end of the consultation to execute on your own.

4 | Design Fee Proposal and Letter of Agreement

We carefully evaluate your needs for your sacred space and the time and resources required to successfully make your vision a reality. We provide a  detailed Design Fee Proposal and Letter of Agreement. We will also review all the details required to help ensure success of your project from launch to completion. This document details the scope of work for the entire project, our design intent and goals, the estimated design fee, the payment terms, the estimated timeline, and the terms and conditions.

The Design Fee Estimate Proposal and Letter of Agreement is approved and initial advance on our design fee received to signal the start of the project.

Phase 2.

Design Development

1 | Project evaluation, programming, and analysis

We carefully assess and document the conditions of the existing space, take accurate measurements and photographs for reference. We also collect any existing floor plans.

2 | Development of Design Plan (floor plans, furnishing, material selections) Concept Development, Sourcing, Researching, Quotes + Estimates

This is the exciting and creative part of the process where the initial concepts we discussed with you at the consultation begin to take shape and develop into a full design plan. We draw on our vast skills and resources to meet your needs and solve the challenges and limitations of your space.

We develop these concepts through a thorough plan review, creating renderings, sketches, elevations, as necessary, and color palettes.

We also source all materials, fixtures, and furnishings.

During this step, we are happy to work with the trades people you hire to gather quotes and estimates which we can include in the initial budget, which is also developed during this step.

3 | Design Plan Presentation // Presentation of final design plan and budget review // Presentation, Budget, Revision (If Any) & Follow Up Presentation

This is an exciting day! We meet with you to go over the details of your custom design plan. This includes all floor plans, elevations, renderings, color scheme, digital presentation boards, fabric and wallpaper samples, other finish material samples, furniture selections and budget breakdown.

We believe that this is the opportunity to show you the full potential of your space, and the best option that we believe will address your needs and desires. We will not overwhelm you with several options. We bring the one option that will work for you, because we have taken the time to listen.

This is when the Furnishings Proposal and Agreement is signed and the balance of our design fee, plus 85-100% of the furnishings budget is required.

A follow-up Presentation Meeting, which is the Final Presentation Meeting is sometimes needed if revisions were requested. This involves all the approved elements from the original Design Presentation, plus any new elements that were agreed upon and any revisions requested.

We believe in a collaboration between client and designer and this presentation will address all of your wants and needs, as well as our expert vision for your project, based on previous meetings and discussions.

The Final Presentation includes concepts you can provide to the trades you hire to carry out the work, color schemes, all furnishings, fabric memos, and detailed budget breakdown – item by item. It will all be laid out for you so that you will be able to visualize what the finished space will look like. Any adjustments to the budget due to revisions are agreed upon at this meeting.

Budget Review (Typically Larger Projects With Renovations Involved).

Undergoing a renovation or remodeling project can be overwhelming for clients, and the thought of making decisions on furnishings can only add to that overwhelm; especially where the budget is concerned.

4 | Trade Day

You can contact to schedule appointments to obtain quotes and estimates at any time before this, however, this is a preferred day to have your contractors to this meeting to discuss the feasibility of initial concepts and ideas so that they can provide quotes for the work needed.

We are happy to suggest trades or you can provide details and we will make the connections for Trade Day.

5. | Procurement
Great, we have a design plan that you love! The designer initiates the ordering process and performs a delivery lead time assessment.

In this step we also manage the procurement of all the furnishings and decor products, track and manage all orders, assess lead times, note any back-orders or discontinued items that may delay the project.

Phase 3.

Execution

1 | Project Management

We create and establish a proposed schedule for every aspect of your project. During this time, we make sure that our projected timeline is adhered to as best as we can.

2 | Initiation of any construction or renovation
3 | Furniture installation and styling

This may occur over a period of days or weeks, depending on lead time availability of furnishings.

4 | Post evaluation
5 | Resolving Deficiencies and Punch Lists

We coordinate with the vendor involved to cure any deficiencies. Thankfully, this step is not needed in most cases as we are very diligent about quality checks before products arrive at your home on installation day. However, we have this measure in place to make sure that you will be happy with your finished space.

6 | Photos and Closure Meeting, Final Invoicing
